About the
Potomac Quantum
Innovation Center

Greater Washington—with its rich foundation of talent, resources, assets, and stakeholders—is poised to lead our nation and the world into the quantum era. However, the region lacks a mechanism to bring these scattered efforts together to accelerate quantum ecosystem formation. By integrating these efforts, Connected DMV has set out on an ambitious path to make the region the premier hub for the next generation of quantum leadership, innovation, and economic development across quantum computing, sensing, communications, and materials.

Our Mission

PQIC’s mission is to prepare for the future by bringing together Greater Washington's quantum stakeholders across borders and sectors to drive innovation, talent development, economic growth, and positive social impact.

Our Goals

Top 5 Quantum Region

Establish Greater Washington as the global “capital of quantum,” recognized as a top five quantum region by market size and talent pool.

10,000 by 2030

PQIC will help prepare 10,000 women and people of color to join our region's  quantum workforce by 2030.

Quantum Public Square

Serve as a neutral public square for collaboration among the public sector, academia, industry, community, and investors to accelerate the value of quantum

Why Now?

The quantum computing market is growing fast and estimated to reach $65 billion by 2030. And that's just quantum computing. By 2023, quantum solutions will create a competitive advantage for 25% of Fortune Global 500 companies, with North America as the biggest regional market for quantum technologies.

If we don’t act now, Greater Washington will miss a historic opportunity to lead this transformative “quantum leap.” We must come together now across borders and disciplines to shape a quantum-ready region.

What Success Looks Like

Together, we will:

  • Activate a regional vertical network of cross-sector stakeholders and assets to pursue joint opportunities

  • Raise awareness and facilitate early-stage opportunities for entry into quantum

  • Engage marginalized and under-represented populations in quantum roles and industry development

  • Create a quantum-ready workforce through viable and sustainable regional talent pipelines

  • Facilitate an informed loop between industry needs and applied research

  • Accelerate the quantum research-to-market cycle in key regional cluster domains

  • Raise the need for quantum solutions among policy and regulatory audiences
